ABOUT
Hi, I’m Alex P. Berg, a multi-genre writer and the author of over twenty-five novels. Among them are my best-selling psychic mystery series, Daggers & Steele, a fast-paced urban fantasy series, The Nyte Patrol, a thrilling science-fiction saga, The Tyrants of Mars, and a contemporary romance, White-Collar Crimes.
This is normally where you’d find a brief, boring blurb about my life and accomplishments. However, a much better way to get to know me is through an FAQ, presented as a discourse with myself. Let’s get this started, shall we?
You write mystery, science-fiction, fantasy, and romance? That’s a lot of genres.
Indeed it is. Hence, multi-genre author. You could argue that it would be smarter for me to pick one genre and stick to it, but what can I say? I like to read broadly, and I like to write broadly, too.
What’s your favorite genre?
To read? Probably a tie between science fiction, fantasy, and mystery. But to write? Mystery, although I tend to mash genres together. My best-selling Daggers & Steele series is a police procedural series set in an urban fantasy world. Rich Weed is a science-fiction private eye series. Even The Nyte Patrol and The Tyrants of Mars features elements of mystery, though they’re not traditional mysteries. You can check all of them out over in My Books.
So… romance, huh?
Is that a question?
Seems like an outlier, is all I’m saying.
And you’d be right, but what can I say? Sometimes I read romance, and I got the itch to write a romance series. I’m not sure if I’ll write more in the future, but I’m proud of the stories I’ve put to paper so far.
What do you plan to write in the future, then?
Mostly mysteries (I’m working on a contemporary mystery at the moment that I’m really excited about), but I won’t constrain myself. If I get an itch to travel somewhere outside my comfort zone, I’ll consider it.
Do any of your books feature adult content?
The romances do, yes (I’d say they’re about a 3.5 out of 5 on the spice level). Other than that, not really. There’s some violence here and there (Daggers and Steele are homicide detectives, after all), and some of my mysteries/SFF novels feature sexually-suggestive scenes, but nothing racy.
I saw in one of your novels that you drew your own cover art. Are you an artist, too?
An amateur one, yes. I used to feature more of my art on my website, but since most people are here for my books, I display those front and center. That said, if you really want to see some of my artwork, I do have a gallery. I’ll admit, I don’t update it regularly.
How in the world do you find time to hone all these different skills?
I have a very patient and supportive wife, mostly.
So how long have you been writing?
Since 2012. I published my first novel in 2014, and since then, I’ve gone on to write more than twenty-five novels, as well as a number of novellas and short stories. I’ve written as many as four novels in a year, but that’s an anomaly.
Wow. That’s a lot.
For some, maybe. For others, it’s not. It’s all relative. I will say that my pace has slowed in recent years.
What did you do before you became a writer?
I was a scientist and engineer. Believe it or not, I have a Ph. D. in Nuclear Engineering, but I’m a lot happier writing than I was engineering.
Are you agented?
Not currently.
How do I contact you?
If you have comments, concerns, questions, or business inquiries, use the comment box on the Contact Me page. You can also follow me on BlueSky and Facebook. I have separate Facebook pages for my Romance and Mystery/SFF, but just one Bluesky profile.
